El Nido is one of them. An old Fuerteventura home, thoughtfully transformed into an architectural retreat where art, nature and island life exist as one.

Set on the edge of Lajares, surrounded by open land and volcanic silhouettes, the house was restored with a profound respect for its origins and for the landscape around it. Warm lime-toned walls, volcanic stone, natural textures and handcrafted finishes give the villa a quiet, almost timeless character.

Inside, light becomes part of the architecture. Large windows dissolve the boundaries between the house and its surroundings, while art, books, instruments and carefully collected objects reveal the creative soul of the people behind El Nido. Upstairs, a private workspace opens towards the volcanoes — a place to write, create, think or simply watch the landscape change with the light.

Outside, an emerald-turquoise pool lies among palms, native vegetation and volcanic stone. Terraces and shaded corners invite long breakfasts, barefoot afternoons and evenings under the Fuerteventura sky. Here, the exterior becomes interior, and the interior slowly opens itself to the island.

Sustainability is not an addition to El Nido, but part of its identity. Renovated in 2023 using locally available materials wherever possible, the house uses solar energy to heat its water, reuses wastewater for its plants and intentionally leaves its pool unheated — embracing the climate and natural rhythm of the island.

Just two minutes from the creative surf village of Lajares and around ten minutes from the beaches of northern Fuerteventura, El Nido sits between two worlds: close to everything, yet surrounded by silence, trails and raw nature.
